Paid services provided in relation to immigration matters, such as completing government agency forms, are performed by an Immigration Assistant (Consultant). In order to operate in the state of Georgia, consultants must register with the Office of the Secretary of State. Part of this process includes providing a $5,000 surety bond to protect anyone working with the Consultant that may be harmed by the Provider’s negligence, malfeasance or misfeasance in the conduct of immigration assistance. If the Consultant does not fully comply with the provisions of Georgia Code O.C.G.A 43-20A, a claim can be filed on the surety bond for reimbursement. In addition to the bond, the Immigration Assistant must meet the following requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Complete Application
- Submit $40.00 application fee
- Submit Consent Form for Background Investigation
- Copy of current identification document (examples include: drivers license or passport)
