As part of the Medical Marijuana Control Program (MMCP), a surety bond is required to become a medical marijuana cultivator in the state of Ohio. The bond amount will vary on the type of license being applied for. Below is a list of license types, bond amounts and descriptions. Additional information for these can be found on the MMCP website.
- Dispensary – $50,000 Bond Amount
- Authorized to sell medical marijuana to qualifying patients and caregivers. Dispensaries can obtain medical marijuana from one or more processors.
- Testing Laboratory – $75,000 Bond Amount
- Independent laboratory located in Ohio that is authorized to have custody and use of controlled substances for scientific and medical purposes and for purposes of instruction, research, or analysis. Testing Labs can obtain medical marijuana from one or more licensed cultivators, processors, and/or retail dispensaries.
- Processor – $250,000 Bond Amount
- An entity that has been authorized to manufacture medical marijuana products. Processors can obtain medical marijuana from one or more licensed cultivators and deliver or sell medical marijuana to one or more licensed retail dispensaries.
- Cultivator Level I – $750,000 Bond Amount
- Permitted to operate up to 25,000 square feet of space designated as the marijuana cultivation area.
- Authorized to grow, harvest, package and transport medical marijuana. Cultivators can deliver or sell medical marijuana to one or more licensed processors.
- Cultivator Level II – $75,000 Bond Amount
- Permitted to operate up to 3,000 square feet of space designated as the marijuana cultivation area.
- Authorized to grow, harvest, package and transport medical marijuana. Cultivators can deliver or sell medical marijuana to one or more licensed processors.
