In addition to state requirements, The City of Federal Heights requires anyone who operates a Medical Marijuana Establishment to be licensed, per Chapter 14 – Article XVII of the Federal Heights Code of Ordinances. Federal Heights defines a “Medical Marijuana Establishment” as a licensed medical marijuana center, infused product manufacturer, optional premises cultivation operation or a testing facility. As part of the licensing requirements, a $5,000 surety bond must be submitted and maintained with the city’s finance department. This surety bond guarantees that the principal will report and pay all sales and use taxes due the city, and, if not, the surety company will pay them. Retail stores, distributing for recreational use, within the City of Federal Heights must follow the same requirements above for licensing.
